Real Estate


The Auditor is the county's Chief Assessor. It is the duty of the Auditor to see that every parcel of land and the buildings thereon are fairly and uniformly appraised and assessed for tax purposes. The Auditor's Real Estate Division maintains information on more than 160,000 parcels in Butler County. The Real Estate Division consists of three departments (Appraisal, Conveyance, and Tax Accounting), which handle a variety of duties including:

  • Appraising property
  • Administering tax reduction programs (Current Agricultural Use Value (CAUV), Homestead Exemption, and Owner-Occupancy Credit)
  • Maintaining ownership records and legal descriptions
  • Managing GIS maps
  • Calculating taxes and administering special assessments
  • Distributing approximately $410 million in property taxes
